Sacred Tattoos of Thailand book: Explore the Magic, Masters and Mystery of Sak Yan is the first illustrated book in English to trace the history and origins of the Tai hand-inked tattoo tradition. While Thailand remains the centre of the cultural form's conservation and development, similar traditions exist today in Cambodia, Laos and parts of Vietnam, China and Burma. The product of 18 months of field research and photography, Sacred Tattoos of Thailand brings the world of this fascinating and commonly misrepresented tradition to light. Rather than sensationalise sak yan and popularise the misconception that the tradition is the stuff of gangsters and bad boys, Sacred Tattoos of Thailand sheds light on the tradition s spiritual roots and how it combines into a single belief system elements of Buddhism, Brahmanism and animism, all of which are underpinned by a strict moral and ethical code that is passed from master to disciple. While masters range from monks to laymen, the sak yan people featured in the book come from all walks of life, from New York rock drummer Ming Roth, Singaporean deejay Chris X Ho and Thai actress Jan Yousagoon, to nightclub bouncers, wandering monks and an officer from the Department of Special Investigations.Joe Cummings expert text traces the development of the tradition in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. While sak yan is in decline in neighbouring countries, the narrative shows how Thailand remains the safe harbour of this vibrant cultural form which otherwise would be at risk of dying out.Beyond bringing the life stories of the various ajarns and their predecessors to light, the author explores the magic and symbolism of the various tattoo traditions, including primary research into the little known Lanna script from Northern Thailand. Visually, Dan White s reportage-style photography takes readers into the salas of the sak yan ajarns, shedding light on their daily lives, the preparations and rituals that give the tattoos their power, and the deep relationships that are formed between master and disciple. Rather than opting for posed artistic portraits the photographer has taken great effort to show the people and places featured in the book in their everyday lives, making them the story.  Lemongrass, or citronella root, is the reason Thai and Vietnamese dishes often have a compelling flavor that's not exactly lemon, but a subtle lemon perfume. It is sold by the stalk which resembles a green onion. Serving tips: Use the portion of the white base up to where the leaves begin to branch. If slightly dry, soak in warm water to rehydrate. Shred or finely slice and add to soups, curry dishes, and sauces for seafood. Get a nice large quantity for generous use, 2 lbs is about 12 stalks.Click here for more info or hey! if you wanna plant it Check this out.

Thai sticky rice (also known as "sweet rice" or "glutinous rice")is a tasty, sweet rice that does a great job of filling the stomach--but be careful not to eat too much... According to Thai tradition sticky rice can put you fast asleep if more than a couple handfuls are eaten. It is meant to be formed into small balls that you make with your fingers. Then dip it in spicy sauce and let it soak up like a sponge. See recipes below for meals served with sticky rice. Fish sauce is the single, most important flavoring ingredient in Thai cooking (also well-loved in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma and the Philippines). Used like salt in western cooking and soy sauce in Chinese cooking, good-quality fish sauce imparts a distinct aroma and flavor all its own. Large bottle will get you on the right track to start making all of your favorite Thai dishes. Simply put: if it doesn't have fish sauce, it can't be considered Thai. In Thai recipes as well as recipes throughout Southeast Asia, palm sugar is used as a natural sweetener. Our palm sugar is the best you can find anywhere, as we import from a premium producer in western Thailand, where the natural sap is collected from cut sugar palms and boiled until a nice sticky sugar remains. The natural sugar is poured directly into little cakes and packaged for easy use (see photos). It can be also eaten as candy. Consistency is firm but slightly soft, making it more simple to use than the inferior rock hard palm sugar some are selling. You get 8 small cakes, simply shave off what you need with a knife, and it dissolves nicely in the cooking process. Use with curries, gourmet dishes, sauces, and various desserts. Product of Thailand.Ingredients: 97% pure palm sugar, 3% refined malt sugar. Click here for more info
